Admissions Policy

At Knighton Day Nursery and Pre School we care for children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years. The nursery is open all year round, and closes only for bank or public holidays.

The numbers and ages of children admitted to the nursery comply with the legal space requirements set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).  When considering admissions we are mindful of staff:child ratios and the facilities available at the nursery.

Parents can apply for a place by completing and returning an application form with the registration fee.

The minimum booking is 1 full day per week.

The nursery will use the following admission criteria which will be applied in the following order of priority –

  1. Children who have siblings who are already with us
  2. Children requiring an all year place
  3. Looked after children
  4. A child known by the local authority to have special educational needs and/or a disability (SEND) and whose needs can be best met at the preferred nursery
  5. A vulnerable child with either a Child Protection or a Child in Need Plan or Local Authority/Common Assessment Framework
  6. Children requiring a term time only place

All places, whether full or part time, will be offered on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, with the following exceptions;

Where there is more than one family with children already attending, places will be offered in the order of the date of application.

A child requiring a full-time place may have preference over one requiring a part-time place. This is dependent upon work commitments, occupancy and room availability.

Parents / carers who require a full time place, but accept a part time place as an interim measure will be given priority whenever additional sessions become available.

Parents / carers requiring a part time place who accept less sessions in the interim will be the next priority.

Parents / carers who are offered and decline a place will remain in the same place on the waiting list.

We operate an inclusion and equality policy and ensure that all children have access to nursery places and services irrespective of their gender, race, SEN, disability, religion, belief or family background.

Where staff will require training to meet the needs of children with SEN or disabilities, we will obtain support and advice from the area SENCO team in order for the child to commence on the preferred start date where possible.

Prior to a child attending nursery, parents must complete and sign a contract and registration form. These forms provide the nursery with personal details relating to the child. For example, name, date of birth, address, emergency contact details, parental responsibilities, dietary requirements, collection arrangements, fees and sessions, contact details for parents, doctor’s contact details, health visitor contact details, allergies, parental consent etc.

Funded Sessions

Children become eligible for the 15 funded hours in the term following their 2nd (eligible children only) or 3rd birthdays. Some children are also eligible for the additional 15 hours (conditions apply)

Funded sessions are offered as follows –

Up to 15 hours per week in term time, with a quality premium fee to cover consumables and meals. Full fees payable in school holidays

30 hours per week stretched over 51 weeks per year with a charge for *meals and additional hours

*Fully funded sessions of up to 30 hours per week (with or without meals)

Our funded hours are 9am – 4.30pm

We do not have termly intake as most pre-school places are filled by children moving through the nursery, in the event that there are sessions available at the beginning of each term, they will be allocated as follows (a choice of days is unlikely in this situation)–

  1. Children on our current waiting list
  2. Looked after children
  3. A child known by the local authority to have special educational needs and/or a disability (SEND) and whose needs can be best met at the preferred nursery
  4. A vulnerable child with either a Child Protection or a Child in Need Plan or Local Authority/Common Assessment Framework

At Knighton Day Nursery and Pre-School, we offer a *limited number of fully funded places for 2, 3 and 4 year olds.

These places are offered as follows –

  1. A child attending Knighton Nursery as a fully funded 2 year old moving up to the pre school
  2. A child known by the local authority to have special educational needs and / or a disability (SEND) and whose needs can be best met at the preferred nursery
  3. A vulnerable child with either a Child Protection or a Child in Need Plan or Local Authority/Common Assessment Framework

All parents, irrespective of whether the child already attends Knighton Nursery or not, are required to complete and sign a Parent Declaration Form, provide evidence of their child’s identity (Birth Certificate or Passport), address and TYOF reference number or Eligibility Code (if applicable).

Parents of children attending for fully funded sessions only are not charged a registration fee, however, we may charge a fully refundable deposit of £50 when the place is booked. (Refunded in the first week of attendance).

*Parents are welcome to provide meals for their child in line with our Food from home guidelines.

* Additional hours are not available free of charge
